"The Final Week"
It all started with an idea to run 50 miles...
A plan from runner's world magazine I used as a guide...
A belief I could finish the race.
So the time has come..
Week 16 of 16 is upon me in my training plan.. Seemed like a long way to get to this point from where I started. But here I finally am..
Nervous? Maybe so!!
Some little injuries? Hopefully icing will fix right up..
Confident? Hell Yeah!!
Start time: 6:00am Saturday April 14, rain or shine baby, I'm towing the line..
Race plan: start slowly, stay upright the rest of the way, and try to "Run like Hell" when I see the finish line.
Race goal: To become an Ultra-Runner!!! end of story!!!
So like the 12 days of Christmas, I devised my own 12 days or really 12 hour wintry song. Since it is still winter in some parts of the US.
Why not..
So sing along if you can..
OH, for the 12 hours of running, I plan to bring with thee:
Twelve pieces of clothing
Eleven Accel gels
Ten packets of cliff Blok
Nine salt tablets
Eight packets of Vaseline
Seven Elmo Bandages
Six pairs of black socks
Five curse words (okay more than that while I'm out there)
Four water bottles
Three flashlights
Two pairs of trail shoes
Annnd
One baa-ad "No Fear" attitude...Fa, La, La, La, La
So thanks fellow bloggers, for being my virtual support crew, I will think of you all out there, and I will try to take alot of pics, and will shoot off a signal flair when I'm done.
Because McNaughton Trail Ultra here I come..
And yes, this is only the beginning, not the end of my UltraRunning journey..

"Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end up really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I CAN do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have it all at the beginning" - Mahatma Gandhi
I'll be thinking about you; can't wait to read the race report. HAVE FUN!!!
Good Luck!!! Have fun out there!
(cute lyrics!)
Nice song! :) I was singing along. You could probably sing the entire thing, all 12 rounds, to keep yourself occupied on the run. I'd imagine all those laps are going to get a little dull.
I'll be rooting for you on the 14th! Go get it done! :)
Good luck this weekend! I can't wait to read the report!
I am excited for you.
GO BUBBA!
I have no doubt that IronBubba will become UltraBubba this weekend. Have FUN!
"Race goal: To become an Ultra-Runner!!! end of story!!! "
dude, puh-leez, you already made that checkpoint with the 30+ mile tuneups! and the back to back 20 mile days...
stay safe, stay strong...
Awesome, Bubba! I can't wait to read how it all goes. I can't imagine the people doing 15loops/150mi... damn. But that's gonna be you someday, I know it!
Have fun out there. You're gonna rock that course!
Woohoo - I'm gonna be singing that song all week for you, Bubba!
Good luck and have fun!! I will be thinking about you... cannot wait to read the report!!
Good Luck ! Quite an achievement. I'm feeling low with a bad knee..that ice doesn't seem to help. Thanks for the inspiration!

I totally put a tune to that song. I can't wait to read your race report. Hopefully the weather treats you a little better than it's treating us now!
If your body's as creative and strong as your brain was when you created that clever little ditty, you're gonna rule that course. Loop de loop.
You've put in the training, now it's time to put yourself to the test. You are ready for this. In the last couple of training runs I've done with you, I can tell you're strong and prepared.
I'll be thinking about you on race day...can't wait to hear about it. You're quite the inspiration!
And just think, you'll be basking in glory while I am running IMAZ! Oh the other hand, I'll be screwing around the IMAZ expo while your are out for your 50 miler...the world is in balance.
