Progress!
I think my trail shoes are getting really lonely these days. Missing a 50k trail race over the weekend stings a little bit. But I know it was the right decision to not go.. I would have finished the race but would have paid a heavy price afterwards.
So I headed to the gym instead, because things are getting better on the injury front. Feel more optimistic, but it has been up and down the past month, so I'll take any kind progress as it occurs at this point.
I've been sleeping with one foot in a night splint and the other one bandaged up providing compression. Surprisingly it has helped.
Good enough to get a couple of running miles on the treadmill. Along with more pool running, some strength training, and going to my masters swim class. Activity does make the body and soul feel so much better.
Then the latest addition of Triathlete magazine comes in the mail. I sometimes forget I'm a triathlete as well and not just a trail runner. So with more active recovery comes more time surfing the Internet for races to possibly enter.
So I'm adding this one on my 2008 tentative race list. The Great Illini , and since I will be there, might as well do the FULL distance (2.4 swim, 112 bike, 26.2 run), RIGHT!!
More things to get excited about!

Gotta do the full distance, indeed! Good call on skipping the 50k. I know it's not easy.
That's a lot of shoes there buddy! ;-) Glad to hear that the injury is feeling better :-)
That looks like a good race. September 6th is the day before my B-day.
Interesting contraption you're wearing. Glad it seems to be working as intended.
That race looks cool - I haven't received my magazine yet. I'm always glad to see new non-MDot iron-distance races show up.
Nice "bucket-o-shoes!" And good to hear that things are getting a little better! Is it easy to sleep in that? Or is it annoying?...
Glad your injury is making progress on the healing front.
The Great Illini sounds interesting.
Yeah - So glad things are going well.
Of course you signed on for the full distance. :)
love those non- dot-m's.
they seem to get lost in all the dot-m hype.
that looks like a great "full" one to try...
good luck mending as you start to increase your load ...
"just" a trail runner. That's running 100 miles! At one time!
Skipping a race SUCKS but in the big picture it was the smart thing to do.
Love the photo of all of your shoes. Man I thought I had a lot of pairs. You have me beat!
Hang in there!
Good call on giving the 50K a pass. There'll be more.
The Great Illini looks great. I'd give the full a go, but I'll be out of the country. Darn the luck...
Good thing you skipped the 50K. We should listen to our bodies when they are talking, not just when they are screaming!
I signed up for the Ice Age 50Miler. If you are not better by then, or if it's not going to make your schedule this year, that's ok - there are two girls in my tri club that are doing it too.
Get better!
Jenny
