Life is a Box of Chocolate?
Sometimes you do not know what you get until you open the box.
That is what this racing year has been for me. A little unexpected and having to shift my endurance training/racing schedule when needed.
So with my impulsive nature, I signed up for the Mohican 100 miler, now the reality to D.N.S. (Do not Start) this weekend has become my box of chocolate's this weekend.
This little prize will elude me for this year. But one day I will be back for it.
But I do have to remind myself, family does come first, even though the urge to shift the weight of this thing they call having some sort of "Balanced family Life" does overcome me sometimes. But not this time.
So what do I do, just sit down and eat the rest of the chocolates while everybody else is burning the calories from theirs. Hmm, I guess that is not in my nature?
So in the interest of keeping my "family life" in balance, I'm going to register for a closer race that allows me to be home later in the day, then be home two days later.
So with a my credit card going "ouchie", I'm jumping into the triathlon scene with full force.
Unprepared more for this than a 100 mile Ultra Marathon. So here, "HIGH CLIFF HALF IRONMAN Triathlon" here is my money.
Okay that was a little painful since I paid for the Mohican 100 already, Oh well, C'mon government stimulus check.
So with little swimming, even less biking, I'm going to try to swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles for the first time this year on Sunday. Running 13.1 miles, I think I'm trained for a little bit of that.
So that's the weekend for me. With people doing IronMan CDA, my tri-group doing a local duathlon, and my Ultra friends tackling their 1st 100 miler.
I needed to be out there racing somewhere. So with a couple of more clicks of the button I will be on Sunday. It will be slow, but I will be moving forward.

You are a great dad and hubby :)
We'll miss you at the DU
Have fun out there - I'll try calling you around mile 7 on the run and see if you answer your phone :) :)
That buckle is sweet, I'll need to get one, maybe next year?
Good luck at High Cliff!
When life hands Bubba lemons, he makes lemonade!
Family comes first.
But you found a way to fit something in. So go have fun with it!!
Holy crap! I hope all went well. It surely had to be better than my DNF at Mohican Trail 100 on Saturday. It probably did, you make this stuff look easy.
Brian
Balancing family life with endurance sports is hard. Hope your tri went well! Let me know how the ultra running continues...
Balancing family life.. yep learning all about that. This year its all about close races and fitting training in around babies. Triathlons not that bad a sport!
It's a testament to your fitness that you can just sign up for a half Ironman on a spur of the moment. And it's a testament to your fatherhood that you opted out of the Mohican 100 to be there for your family.
